The Importance of reading Ingredients

Today my review will have as main goal to warn you not to trust immediately what you read on the product labels without reading carefully the ingredients, because the brands intention is to purely sell it. .

Since January that I’ve discovered and been studying the CG method. Before I started it, one of my first buys that I made once I found out about this were these products.

Maui is a new brand in some stores in the UK that started to be advertised by curly girls on the social media. The truth is, the brand says on the label that the product doesn’t contain any sulfates, silicons, parabens, mineral oils, surfactants and some other things that really doesn’t matter to your hair (it says not having gluten in it, which I don’t see the need in it since you don’t actually eat the product)…

I bought it thinking that it would be a great product to start the method, where in reality I hated the three of them – they dried my hair lot, didn’t help enhance my curls and I’ve noticed that:

The label doesn’t match the ingredients every time!

🌿 The shampoo has a surfactant called sodium c14-16 olefin sulfonate (it’s not a sulfate, but a strong surfactant which is very aggressive and leaves your hair feeling dry. You should use it occasionally just to clarify your hair);

🌿 The conditioner has a non-identified alcohol (it just says alcohol, seriously?) which will dry your hair;

🌿 The hair mask has a microcrystalline wax which as the CG method refers will cause build up.

So, these products, for someone that doesn’t actually follow the CG method are not a big deal. I didn’t like them at all. I thought that my hair wasn’t well hydrated, with curl definition and I noticed much more frizz. If you’re wondering which product to start the CG method this one is not indicated, even saying so on the label. Be aware!

⚠️ Has surfactants, waxes and alcohols on its composition.
