Cantu Natural Hair – Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream

Today we are going to talk about the styling cream Cantu Natural Hair Moisturizing Curl Activator! There is a lot of curiosity about this cream and today we will find out together the secrets of this cream.

About the Cantu Activator Cream:

It is accepted in the Curly Girl method, so this means it has no parabens, drying alcohols and silicones. It has no irritating ingredients that can cause scalp dermatitis or fungus.

Product Ingredients:

There’s no doubt that this product is extremely heavy in terms of ingredients. It has a lot of moisturizing and nourishing ingredients, such as heavy oils and butters, which requires some caution when using this product on curly hair as it may weigh down curls.

This product features Behentrimonium Methosulfate, a Cationic Quaternary Surfactant commonly used in conditioners, shampoos and lotions to give the product a softer feel to the lotion. Many of these products are not water soluble. Having these ingredients in your hair is not a problem unless you notice that your hair starts to get “heavy” without curling or even rejecting this product. It might lead to an oily scalp, if that happens you may need a shampoo with stronger surfactants.

cantu ingredients

This type of product can lead to hair buildup.

There’s also a Polyquaternium-11 on the ingredients list, this means a cationic conditioning agent that has some potential for hair accumulation. It does give some light fixation on the hair, helping to define curls.

This product also has a Polyquaternium-10, a cationic polymer. These ingredients are often water soluble, but their attachment to the hair becomes difficult to remove. They are used to promote lightness and prevent frizz. They are used in hair styling products because they give some hair fixation, helping to define curls. They also add body to the hair because of its property of fixing and forming a barrier around the hair.

This product has two types of protein, the Silk Amino Acids and Hydrolyzed Silk, which help to give body and correct certain hair damage. Amino acids fill some gaps in the hair cuticle, and as they are hydrophilic they help to hydrate the hair, making hair get stronger. Silk amino acids may refer to the amino acids of alanine, glycine and serine.

Hydrolyzed silk proteins are small proteins and help with different hair types, in terms of porosity and fine to thick hair.

How can I use Cantu Natural Hair Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream?

What you need to know about this product is that it can be considered an anti humectant. If you’ve read Garnier’s Fructis Aloe Vera Hydra Bomb review on how to use it in favor of the weather, you will see that this cream is the opposite, a humectant.

So, how can you use Cantu Natural Hair Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream for your curls?

This cream is an anti humectant, which means it does not let water/hydration enter your hair. That is, it should be used in the most extreme weather conditions, such as in high humidity or low humidity (summer days).

This cream should be placed with water-soaked hair to retain as much moisture as possible or, if your hair has high porosity, use a highly moisturizing cream with a lot of water.

After this procedure, you can place the heaviest cream, in this case the Cantu cream. The logic of this is that heavy oils and butters do not let the hair water through:

– On hot days the water on your hair will not evaporate so easily;

– On humid days it helps to fight frizz by not letting moisture get into the hair and making the hair become bulkier.

Opinion of this product on my hair…

This cream was my first approved cream for the curly girl method that I bought. I was still in the mood to try different creams to exchange my Fructis Hydra Curls for one that gave the same definition.

As you know, I have high porosity hair. This means my hair loves heavy creams with plenty of oils and butters.

In my opinion I think it has a strong smell so if you use a large amount of product on your hair, the smell becomes very intense.

I feel I can put on this cream without any major problems with my hair, without having problems with it getting oily, but I have the problem of the aroma. It has a good smell in the package, but if exaggerated in the hair the smell gets too intense even for the people around you.

Not a good cream to use very often, because of having too many ingredients, especially with Behentrimonium Methosulfate and Polyquaternium can cause long-term residue build-up, not making on the long run the desired effect on the hair and even leaving it heavy after several different washes. There is the possibility of this cream with overuse to make the hair hydrophobic, leaving it not properly hydrated, become drier and undefined.

FOR HIGH POROSITY:

You will love this cream, when used alone it promotes a good definition and leaves the curls loose and defined. You can try finishing with a gel on top to promote maximum fixation on curls. If used in large quantities it promotes definition but leaves no room for any volume in the hair.

In case of very dry or very humid days, use a moisturizing cream under this cream.

FOR LOW POROSITY:

I strongly advise you to have hair very damped with water and to dilute this cream in your hand with water before putting it on your hair. Put a small amount, as it can weigh and create oiliness due to the excessive amount of oils and butters it presents. Place more amount of cream on the ends (because they are usually of a higher porosity than the rest of the hair) than on the root. Finish this with a fixative like gel or gelatin.

In case of very dry or very humid days, it is necessary to have the hair very WET before putting it to promote hydration.

Let’s talk about your experiences! Have you tried this cream? What did you think of it? 😘

Hello Curlies! Forgive me for the question (maybe it's written somewhere and I didn't see it ...), but how can I know how much a cream is anti-humectant? or humectant? in addition to this cream from Cantu, will there be other types that can be found in the supermarket? I live in Sintra so the humidity is very high!
    Thank you
