To start the Curly Girl method I chose this Shampoo from the brand Pantene that I had at home to do my final wash. I used to use this shampoo regularly and luckily I found reasons to not use it again!
Now I understand why I liked it: it has several aggressive sulfates that cleaned my hair very well from all the silicones I used at the time on my products. The product has a clear consistency and a subtle smell.
On the final wash is very important for your shampoo to have SULFATESonly, no other bad ingredients, such as Silicones, Silicones, Oils, Waxes and Petrolates! We want to clear our hair from all the bad things we’ve used so far to the present day.
I’ll keep this shampoo at home though, because I colour my hair and I know that my hairdresser uses products that are not compatible with this method, so, I must do a final wash again after drying my hair, just in case (this will happen more or less every 6 months).
Check at home if you have a shampoo with these ingredients before buying. This type of shampoos that contain only Sulfates are very common in ordinary products of normal supermarkets. If you do not have one, here are some tips for you:
- Buy a shampoo specifically for a final wash, if you are predicting that you’ll use it more often. For example, if you go regularly to a hairdresser (dying, trimming hair, etc) you should make a final wash again after you go there (if you’re happy that your hairdresser uses approved products, it is not necessary!), so can buy a shampoo with sulfates for this purpose. If go there very rarely, then you can opt for a small shampoo of 100ml for plane travels.
- If you’re using the shampoo only for a final wash and do not intend to use more in the future, it is a waste of money to buy one to be used just once, so, you can use diluted shower gel or liquid soap for this purpose (first confirm if it contains Sulfates and has no other prohibited ingredient).
This final wash is very aggressive for your hair, so, I advise you to use a good moisturizing mask (it should be moisturizing in order for your hair to retain some water and not get too dry from Sulfates, leading to frizz) and end with a conditioner (both approved for the method).
