What is CCapillary schedule?
The capillary schedule is a homemade treatment that consists of using 3 types of hair masks in order to hydrate it, feed it and I rebuilt it.
This is done with hair masks and can be optional as long as they have the ingredients of each phase in their composition.
The capillary schedule categorizes them into 3 types:
- Hydration - to replenish the water content of the hair. The ingredients stand out: plant and fruit extracts, honey, milk, silk protein and glycerin.
- Nutrition - to replenish hair lipids. We highlight the oils and butters.
- Reconstruction - to replace the “capillary mass”. Ingredients such as keratin (animal or vegetable), proteins and amino acids.
Ingredients Division
This classification completely ignores those who, together with emollients, are two of the main responsible for the effectiveness of hair masks and conditioners: the cationic surfactants and the silicones.
The division of the ingredients for each stage does not take into account that several masks have similar ingredients and its amount and occupation in a formulation.
The method says that proteins can penetrate the cortex, but in fact, there are oils that do so. Pure poop oil is one of the few natural oils that is proven to penetrate the cortex and provide some strengthening effect to the hair. It will not make the hair thicker, but it can help to protect the thinner and weaker strands.
is it then a reconstructor?
Some proteins are known to have a humectant effect - that is, they attract water to the hair or even sometimes are too large to penetrate the cuticle. Sometimes, the ability of these to bond superficially to damaged keratin is not as strong as that of cationic surfactants or modified silicones.
then is it moisturizing?
Rebuild Hair
Although the hair is made of protein, it is chemically dead. Therefore, putting protein on top of hair protein does not make it “healthy”.
The right type of protein can act as a conditioning agent, which can form a protective film on the hair. This does not mean that your hair needs protein, but it does SOMETHING to form that protective layer. Proteins will do this to some extent, but there are other ingredients, like cationic surfactants or silicones, which work even better.
Hydrolyzed proteins may be too large to be absorbed by the hair, and it would be necessary to establish connections with the damaged keratin capable of restoring the integrity of the hair cuticle and this does not happen.
Some of these ingredients can achieve some penetration, increasing the resistance of the hair, but they will not have the ability to repair the damage already inflicted, as is often proposed.
It should be noted that most of the peptides that we find in cosmetic products result from the hydrolysis (breakdown) of large proteins, such as keratin or collagen. These mixtures of hydrolyzed peptides have different molecules, and their composition may even vary between manufacturers of raw materials. In this sense, it becomes even more difficult to predict through the simple observation of the list of ingredients that these mixtures so variable between manufacturers may have action that we intend.
Hair "Need"
The premise of the capillary schedule is to provide the hair with all the nutrients needed and lost by the hair. But who really knows what are needed?
If your hair is badly damaged, you probably don't need a specific mask for all 3 stages.
Conditioners, masks and finishing creams work by smoothing the outer layers of hair, the part called the cuticle. Cuticles are like tiles on the top of a roof - if you don't keep them "glued", they tend to come off and fall.
Whenever you do something to your hair (including washing, drying, styling or coloring), you are causing some degree of damage to the cuticles.
What a good conditioner and mask does is to smooth the cuticles, forming a protective layer over them so they are not so damaged.
In other words ... technically the 3 masks you are wearing, all have the same objective. You can even switch between more and less viscous masks, but separating them into “phases”, it doesn't make much sense.
Consumerism
The capillary schedule encourages unnecessary consumption since to do this method it is necessary to buy a specific capillary mask for each stage.
We already hear about shampoo and finishing cream to correspond to each phase of the method.
This phase of consumerism is also due to the fact that anyone who follows this method has to learn to read ingredients of hair products and about its result without knowing the product. The reading of the ingredients is not always correct in the eyes of those who follow this methodology and sometimes the person feels the need to buy new correct masks for each phase, having already several similar products at home.
Hair care is a healthy methodology, but it will be necessary to be careful with the excessive desire to buy new products that are often not even necessary.
The important thing is to evaluate what is necessary for the capillary routine, without getting carried away by consumerism and buying at the moment. In case of doubt, it is best to go home, think about buying for at least 24 hours before making it and only then make a decision. This prevents products from accumulating at home unnecessarily.
Marketing by brands
Speaking of consumerism, many brands, knowing these capillary methods, formulate products dedicated to these consumers.
If you think about it, it is an easy way to buy the products of the method, mainly because it is quite complicated for the average consumer to know how to read ingredients and it is a way for the company to sell 3 products at once.
Why does it work?
Although the cumulative use of masks and conditioners is not necessary, this may be the main reason for the success of the Hair Schedule, especially in dry or damaged hair; since in the same wash, two conditioning products are used.
Thus, the deposition of conditioning ingredients on the hair fiber will be superior, which will make the hair smoother, shiny and easier to comb.
For hair that is more damaged by external actions (heat tools, straightening, discoloration, coloring, etc.), the cumulative use of masks and conditioners may be the main reason for the success of this method, either because it allows the accumulation of conditioning ingredients on the stem capillary (cationic surfactants, emollients and silicones), but also because this type of hair attracts cationic surfactant ingredients.
However, it is necessary to keep in mind that this effect is temporary, and in the next hair wash these residues will be removed in whole or in part, being necessary to use masks and conditioners again to maintain the good appearance of more damaged hair .
We reiterate that this publication is not intended to denigrate the Capillary Schedule method, let alone its practitioners. However, taking into account the investment of time and money that the Capillary Schedule can represent, we consider it important to inform the people who practice it regarding the principles that make sense, in the light of scientific knowledge, distinguishing them from less rigorous or unfounded statements.
