Powerful Black Saint - Novex

Novex powerful holy

To start the Curly Girl method, I chose these three products from the brand Novex Mystic Black.

I’ve finished the three products, so I will say here my opinion about them on my hair.

I’ve chosen this brand to start this method because it has a low poo shampoo. I made this choice because I wanted to experience my first hair washes with a low poo shampoo and see if it really cleaned my hair properly. My idea is to later go for both low poo and co wash at the same time and when I find a conditioner that I really like for co wash, I will just do co wash on my hair.

Novex Mystic Black Shampoo

What surprised me about this shampoo was the fact that it can do some foam, so because of this I searched more about it:

The surfactant present here is CocoBetaine (Cocamidopropyl Betaine), belonging to the amphoteric surfactants, formulated from coconut oil, helps to give some viscosity to the formula. It is usually used as secondary surfactant in typical shampoo, shower gel, and hand washing liquid. It can promote some foam from the emulsion of the capillary massage, but not so much as using sulphates. It can be used as a primary surfactant – in the case of the shampooor secondary.

PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, also derived from coconut oil, helps in emulsion and to clean hair, because it helps water to mix with oil and dirt so that these substances are removed when rinsed.

This shampoo has some nutritious oils , such as GSoy lycine (Soybean) Oil and Adansonia Digitata Oil which is nice to give some nutrients to your hair while you’re washing it.

It also has other moisturizing ingredients like Glycerin.

Novex Mystic Black Conditioner

I tried once to co wash with it and did not love, I do not think it has the right ingredients to make a good cleaning, therefore, I’ve always used to untangle my hair and close my hair cuticles.

After seeing in more detail the ingredients, I can see that this product has no ingredients to do a proper cleaning on your scalp, as some conditioners do, so I do not advise to use it as a co wash.

It is not too heavy in terms of ingredients, which makes it quite light as a conditioner.

It has moisturizing ingredients like Cetearyl Alcohol and Benzyl Alcohol and other nutritious ones such as Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter and Zea Mays (Corn) Starch.

Novex Mystic Black Leave In Cream

And of course, the very anticipated leave in cream which is very popular in the curly world.

In the analysis of this composition, it showed that there is a very good amount of moisturizing ingredients, so it will help a lot with frizz. It has moisturizers ingredients such as Cetearyl Alcohol, Isopropyl Myristate, Glycerin, Benzyl Alcohol, Achillea Millefolium Extract, Satureia montana Flower Extract, Hedera Helix (Ivy) Leaf/Stem Extract, Verbascum Thapsus Extract, among others.

There are some, but very few, nutritious ingredients, such as Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter in greater quantity and Adansonia Digitata Oil near the end of the ingredients.

It also has present in the composition Arginine, a protein, at the end of the ingredient list, so, its presence is almost nil.

Opinion of this product in my hair

I enjoyed using this brand, but I didn’t become a super fan. I might repurchase the leave in cream, but the shampoo and conditioner I don’t believe so.

The shampoo cleans very well, but it’s necessary, as we know, to make a very good vigorous massage. It is great to start the method and practice this massage with time for future co wash washes.

To untangle my hair, I really like thick conditioners that make that feeling of hair immediately soft and malleable. It does make it’s purpose as a conditioner, but I did not like the rough feeling after showering.

The leave in cream was the product that I liked the most, but, only in conjunction with a gel or gelatin.

Here is where you have to see what your hair likes. My hair is medium/high porosity and is thin, so my hair loves heavy leave in creams to give body and definition.

The leave in cream alone does not make any miracles, I didn’t see any great definition that made me use this leave in cream on its own in the future. I styled this leave in cream with gelatin and really enjoyed the final result. I also like the way gel looks with this leave in cream.

Because this leave in cream is a bit thick, I don’t think it’s a good cream to use in the days following your hair washing as refresh. You will have to dilute it in water or to use it only when styling after you shower.

And so I finish this review!

Have you tried this brand? What do you think of it? 😘

Shampo did not like it and conditioner was not a fan. I prefer cinema curls. The combing cream, however, I use with water or gelatin / gel. Alone leaves me no definition. I honestly do not know if I will buy again.

    • Hello Andreia! Thank you for your comment! 😘❤️
I love that we have exactly the same opinion about these products ahah! I am now experimenting with cinema curls! 🙂 Do you like this range more?

      A huge kiss. 😘
